Reviewing Rodent Infestations and Treatments for Phoenix Homes
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

From the desert landscape to rapid urban development, Phoenix offers perfect conditions for rodents to remain active throughout the year. Despite mild winters, infestations never really subside. In fact, the city’s heat and extreme summer temperatures push rodents indoors. Many homes also have perfect environments for rodents with irrigation, leaking plumbing components, and food sources.

If you suspect rats or mice have invaded your home or have noticed evident signs, it is time to contact Phoenix rodent control services. Companies like Green Mango specialize in rodent issues and offer ongoing support for preventing future infestations. The Green Mango team includes experts and exterminators with experience fixing local problems across Phoenix communities. Here’s more on rodents and how professional treatments work.

Types of Rodents in Phoenix

Woodrats, also called pack rats, are the most typical species found in Phoenix. These carry parasites, can spread diseases, and contaminate food sources. Nests, also called middens, can be found in attics and garages. Norway rats are active outdoor rodents that can be found close to garbage storage areas and in irrigated yards. Roof rats and house mice are the other two species. The latter is smaller and can enter through the smallest gaps, while roof rats are excellent climbers and can enter attics from tree branches.

Despite the long summer in Phoenix, rodent populations continue to thrive, and as the city grows, natural predator zones continue to decline, pushing rats and mice into neighboring areas. Older homes that aren’t maintained well are at a higher risk. So, how do you know there is an infestation? Signs include:

  • Droppings in garages, kitchens, and under sinks
  • Noises at night, especially sounds coming from the ceiling
  • Gnaw marks and damage to wiring, wooden stuff, and insulation
  • Distinct odor in closed areas

Remember, rodents are most active at night, so if you find a rat or house mouse in the open, the situation is worse than you imagine.

Professional Rodent Control in Steps

  • Step 1: Exterminators will first determine what species has entered your home, for which they will inspect indoor and exterior areas alike. They will check factors that may have caused the infestation, such as excessive irrigation, foundation cracks, holes and gaps around utility lines, and lack of landscaping. Technicians know how to distinguish between stick nests and attic activity, which helps them point out the species and the overall treatment process.
  • Step 2: The next step is to ensure there is no infestation inside. If everything is clear, the team will seal all points through which rats and mice can enter. They may also check and replace door sweeps and fix window gaps.
  • Step 3: Rodent treatment is no longer about chemical sprays. Today, non-chemical methods lead the way, and many companies only consider baiting and trapping for safe removal. They will ensure strategic placement in garages and basements, and every aspect will be customized for the species, property type, and overall concerns.
  • Step 4: This is all about removing debris from the yard, clearing rock piles, and adjusting irrigation systems to reduce moisture. They may also recommend landscaping habits that will minimize hiding spots for rats, mice, and other pests.
  • Step 5: Once the treatment is complete, technicians will return a few days later to check for new concerns. Before the next visit, they will set up bait stations to monitor the situation, and during the final inspection, technicians will look for new entry points, if any.

If you want ongoing protection, consider a yearly plan for rodent control in Phoenix. You don’t have to spend time on finding signs, as there will be scheduled assessments.
